Pechiney Plastic Packaging: Coffee vent tape

Pechiney’s (Chicago, IL) coffee vent tape is applied as a ribbon of film lengthwise through the package and is sealed in the end seam. A one-way valve is created in the packaging process.

When pressure develops inside the bag through the release of CO2 gas, the seal opens to vent the package. Then as the inside pressure decreases, the valve closes to keep O2 from entering the package. The one-way pressure release allows coffee to de-gas in the package, avoiding the cost of de-gassing valves. Current vf/f/s filling equipment can be retrofitted, eliminating the need for de-gassing equipment.
