Zipper resealable flexible packaging was spotted in the sugar aisles of a grocery store in Atlanta in June. Imperial Sugar Co.’s Dixie Crystals®, Sugar Land, TX, is selling its Pure Cane Premium Golden Sugar in a new stand-up pouch with resealable zipper supplied by Minigrip/Zip-Pak® (Manteno, IL).
This consumer-friendly polybag, holding 1 lb of light brown sugar, represents one of the first applications of stand-up pouches in the sugar category, a commodity product category typically devoid of value-added packaging such as this. Printed in what appears to be at least six colors, Dixie Crystals also offers the bottom gusseted, stand-up pouch in a 2-lb size.
In addition, Dixie Crystals has gone commercial on a redesigned pouch that has side gussets, a block bottom and a resealable zipper across the top. Imperial Sugar was unavailable for comment.
