ConAgra debuts aseptic pudding packs

ConAgra Foods, Irvine, CA, claims it’s the first-ever shelf-stable pudding in a single-serve tube pack. Another convenient, tube-packed fun food directed toward kids has been introduced (see packworld.com/go/c049): Hunt’s Snack Pack Squeez ‘n Go Portable Pudding.

Squeez ‘n Go debuted this summer and should be available nationwide this month.

The 2.25-oz tubes measure 8¾’’ x 1½’’. The three-side-sealed film with tear notch opening is from Curwood (Oshkosh, WI). Although film details are unavailable, samples indicate that a foil or a metallized film layer plays a key role in the laminated structure. ConAgra had introduced refrigerated tube packs of pudding under the Hershey brand this spring in a similar format now used for Squeez ‘n Go. Both products are produced eight-up at rates of 400 packs/min on Stick Pack Model 2030 form/fill/seal equipment from Hassia USA (Morganville, NJ). ConAgra says that the tubed packs have a one-year shelf life.

“Convenience is a major factor for moms when choosing snacks for their families,” says Charlene Lee, brand manager for the Snacks Business Unit of ConAgra Foods’ Grocery Foods Group. “[We] developed Squeez ‘n Go to give consumers a new, fun, and easy way to snack on-the-go.” The hand-held tube packs, intended for kids ages 6 to 12, require no utensils and permit the puddings to be eaten anywhere. Puddings are formulated without preservatives in six flavors. The four different eight-count carton varieties are marketed with other ready-to-eat puddings or in the snacks aisle where they sell for $2.69. —RL
