American Bubble, a Los Angeles-based bubble company, was created when toy industry veterans saw an opportunity to make the segment more sustainable.
“We knew the bubble market very well and saw that it was only saturated with plastic bottles that aren’t even 100% recyclable,” says Susan Wasserman, founder and President of American Bubble. “After seeing how some countries—especially the Maldives—have decided to eliminate one time-use plastic bottles, we researched a better alternative. It turned out to be aluminum, not only for its highly recyclable material, but also because of the quality.”
The company launched its Bubble Tree product with an aluminum bottle designed to reflect the brand’s goals of sustainability and environmental safety. Bubble Tree Original Multi-Packs system comes with two aluminum bubble bottles filled with eco-friendly bubble solutions that can be refilled, reused, and recycled. Its refill system is made from corrugated, and the cap and wand are made from recycled plastic and are produced by American Bubble.
Bubble Tree worked with Trivium, a metal packaging supplier, to develop the package, which was recently recognized with a World Packaging Organization WorldStar Award. Trivium tested for long-term compatibility between the bubble formulation and the aluminum bottles, according to Chas Aylsworth, Business Development Manager, Trivium Packaging. American Bubble wanted to make sure the bottles were easily held by kids even while wet, so Trivium created a package with an ergonomic indentation near the top for kids to easily hold. On top of the indentation and graphics, Trivium applies a special coating to help reduce the bottles from becoming slippery when wet.
According to the company, Bubble Tree is the first to create a bubble bottle out of aluminum and develop a sustainable refill system that aims to eliminate one time-use plastic.
