Avery Dennison Corporation: Heat-activated steam release valve provides precise control during microwave cooking

New Flexis Steam valve technology from Avery Dennison eliminates the need to slit or lift the microwave lidding film, bags, or container by the consumer prior to cooking.

Microwave steam cooking is becoming more important for the health benefits and better taste that can be achieved. New FlexisTM Steam valve technology eliminates the need to slit or lift the microwave lidding film, bags, or container by the consumer prior to cooking. The valve is self-venting without consumer intervention. The steam valve controls steam release and internal pressure. Better results after microwave cooking can be achieved with consistent temperature and pressure within the package during the cook cycle.

The steam valve is applied over a die-cut opening in the lidding film. Prior to cooking, the valve is closed, maintaining a hermetic seal. During the cooking cycle, the valve opens at the specified temperature and allows the steam to escape. The low-profile valve can be applied with standard high-speed label application equipment.
