The correct image is shown.

Three layers are used to make the pouch. A 4-mil outer clear top ply is an adhesive lamination of DuPont Canada’s nylon with a PP-based film produced by Alcan Packaging. The middle ply, also from Alcan, is a PP-based multilayer coex perforated for permeability; it contains an autoclavable peelable seal feature that activates after steam sterilization. The outer bottom ply is a spunbond-meltblown-spunbond nonwoven sheet from BBA Fiberweb; it allows permeation of sterilization gases while it also provides a barrier to bacterial penetration. Cardinal Health Care converts the material into a three-side-sealed pouch that it sells to the hospital and dental markets.

The unique design provides an alternative to conventional in-hospital sterilization methods. It provides greater security and flexibility with reduced opportunities for contamination of instruments, offers the ability to accommodate a range of different-sized instruments, and provides overall labor and material cost savings opportunities.

Autopak won a Gold Award for Technical Innovation. For more info, phone Amy Weber at 773/399-8450 or send an email to [email protected].
