New News

Congress has stymied the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) attempt to issue comprehensive ergonomic regulations after businesses complained that the agency's proposals were overly restrictive and burdensome.

But the Virginia Court of Appeals ruled in two separate cases that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a disease, paving the way for victims to collect worker's compensation benefits. In other OSHA-related developments, package manufacturers may find useful a new OSHA booklet on personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and employers' responsibilities. It outlines PPE equipment for various body parts, details conditions when respirators are required and offers suggestions for purchasing PPE equipment. A free copy of the booklet can be obtained by sending a self-addressed label to the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA Publications, P.O. Box 37535, Washington, DC, 20013, or call 202/219-4667.
