Acrylamide warnings in California?

California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment has proposed using the state’s Proposition 65 to require warning labels on foods containing acrylamide.

NFPA reacted sharply to the proposal, noting that research scientists in government, industry, and academia are studying acrylamide in foods, how it is formed in cooking, and whether it poses any threat to human health. Health organizations from around the world, including FDA and the World Health Organization, have recommended that consumers not change their diet because of this research. NFPA said “unwarranted warnings” do not benefit Californians and set a dangerous precedent for purveyors of food in that state.
