Status quo for labels

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is deferring indefinitely its planned requirement that individual meat and poultry products bearing a “healthy” claim on the label contain no more than 360 mg of sodium and that meal-type products making a “healthy” claim contain no more than 480 mg.

The agency decided to stick with its current levels of 480 mg and 600 mg of sodium for individual and meal-type products respectively.
