Wilpak has developed an online time-management system to inventory the schedules of its workers, who number 400 at peak times. An online system tracks worker assignments and duties. It also matches temporary workers’ hours with billing.
• An online control sheet measures dock activity. It logs inbound and outbound jobs, identifying the carrier, type of load, arrival of materials, and packaging completion and shipping times.
• The company puts a five-week production schedule online for each project. It outlines production goals, determines how the company will meet a customer’s schedules, plots work schedules and staffing, and logs the number of production lines required. Customers receive a daily activity report, and they can also view their production lines live on Web cameras.
• A financial analysis report goes beyond measuring real-time hourly profitability. It identifies seasonal workload trends and enables Wilpak “to pursue our next projects more scientifically,” says Debra Forrester, marketing manager.
