The road to Las Vegas: Angelus' Arol, Optima's Amotek, MG2 at MG America

This week’s PACK EXPO previews are: Arol servo cappers join Angelus family, Optima’s Amotek flow bagger is optimized for wipes, MG America introduces MG2’s horizontal case packer

What’s new at PACK EXPO this year

Capping flexibility quality and speed from Arol

At Angelus Sanitary Can (Booth C-5127) visitors will see the latest Arol capping machine the servo-driven Equatorque. Equipped with ELAU’s PacDrive SCL integral servo motor/drives on each capping head the Equatorque eliminates clutches to maximize flexibility and assure consistently accurate closing torque.

To assure quality each capping head performs a torque self-calibration with every cycle. A sophisticated monitoring system detects closing faults automatically including no cap cap at incorrect angle no container and rotation of container. A simple operation sets optimum cap/container/closing torque configurations and adjustments can be made remotely. The ELAU diagnostic capabilities let packagers perform scheduled maintenance on the basis of actual work performed by the machine.

The unique distributed servosystem reduces electrical cabinet size simplifies electrical connections to the rotary table and provides both IP67 sealing and chemical resistance for the motor/drives.

The Equatorque is available with up to 42 servo capping heads each capable of a maximum production speed of 2 bph. All Equatorque cappers use the same software application providing a common look and feel for operators programmers and maintenance personnel.

Efficient flowbagger targets wet wipe market

Amotek part of the Optima Packaging Group (PELV Booth C-3936) will introduce the FBW flowbagger designed specifically to meet the market demand for wet wipes.

The FBW combines the advantages of a horizontal wrap-around with a top longitudinal seam to prevent liquid loss during the wrapping process and a standard bag filler’s practical cross weld with side gussets.

Amotek’s modular design provides interchangeable cross-sealing units for production speeds up to 80 cpm and rotating sealing modules up to 120 cpm.

The servo-driven film unwind module features easy threading consistent tensioning and a dual feed and backup reel design with auto-splicing and registration control for continuous material flow. Likewise a dual unit labeling module provides continuous application of the recloseable adhesive labels that allow consumers to remove a single wipe at a time.

A servo-driven product infeed module synchronizes product transport to the servo-driven sealing cutting and gusset tucking processes. All these functionalities are performed by an ELAU PacDrive automation system.

Horizontal case packer complements vertical

MG America (PELV booth N-9707) will feature MG2’s new GSL20 horizontal case packer complementing the recently introduced GTL30 vertical case packer. Both are mechatronic designs automated by ELAU’s PacDrive system and designed for maximum reliability high speed ease of use and maintainability.

Advanced servo automation of the main machine movements assures positive case handling reliable opening and sealing at speeds up to 20 cpm depending on format. In total 6 PacDrive servo axes are controlled by the company’s economical new PacDrive C200 automation controller.

Reflecting MG2’s 6% annual reinvestment of revenue into R&D this advanced design requires no size parts when size changeover occurs. Adjustments are made using a combination of control panel inputs and handwheels. Only the GSL20’s product infeed pusher plate and hopper must be replaced to meet customer product configurations.

Ideally suited for pharmaceutical and cosmetics packaging the GSL20 can be equipped with either a color touchscreen HMI or with an industrial PC running Windows XP and CFR 21 Part 11 conforming MG2 software.
