New venue for Pack Expo Las Vegas 2003

It’s the fifth time around for this fast-growing show, and it’s expected to be bigger, newer, and better than ever when the curtain goes up on October 13. Look for more than 800 exhibitors and 17ꯠ attendees.

Now in its fifth edition and ranked as one of the fastest growing trade shows in the nation, Pack Expo Las Vegas is completely sold out, says the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute, sponsor and producer of the show. The show runs October 13 to 15 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

With 814 exhibitors occupying 413ꯠ net sq’, the show has increased approximately 9% from its last go round in 2001.

“We are grateful to the packaging community for their continued support of Pack Expo Las Vegas,” says Charles D. Yuska, president of PMMI. “With a proven track record of attracting senior managers from a broad array of consumer- and industrial-goods companies, exhibitors can count on meeting with key customers and prospects during the event.

“In turn, exhibitors bring new and innovative solutions for a wide variety of packaging applications, which provides real incentive for attendees. With today’s tightened travel budgets and management’s desire for innovative packaging solutions, having a range of technology in one location is favored over attending multiple events or only attending one supplier’s show.”

PMMI expects to attract more than 17ꯠ high-level decision makers to the event from throughout North America, South America, and Asia. Much is new this time around, too, including the show’s venue.

“By moving to the Las Vegas Convention Center, we can accommodate additional exhibitors and provide even more value to the show’s senior-level attendees,” says Yuska. “Pack Expo Las Vegas 2003 is expected to occupy 425ꯠ square feet, up from 390ꯠ square feet in the 2001 event.”

Debuting in 2003 is the Containers and Materials pavilion. Located in the front of the South Hall, this brand new pavilion will feature the latest innovations in materials, containers, and converting machinery.

The Showcase of Packaging Innovations is new, too. It features the most recent winners in competitions held by the following: Flexible Packaging Assn., Glass Packaging Institute, Paperboard Packaging Council, Foodservice & Packaging Institute, The Tube Council, Institute of Packaging Professionals, Environmental Protection Agency, DuPont, Mexican Packaging Assn., Brazil Packaging Assn., and the Instituto Argentino Del Envase.

The conference

Pack Expo Las Vegas 2003 will once again sponsor the Conference at Pack Expo. The conference will run Monday, October 13, to Wednesday, October 15. It will feature a broad range of presentations covering RFID technology, the latest FDA packaging regulation initiatives under the Bio-terrorism Preparedness Act, and trends in food cans, closures, meat and poultry trays, and glass packaging. Packaging professionals attending the Conference will learn more about these important topics as well as other emerging technologies and trends at the Conference at Pack Expo.

In addition to 35 sessions that run concurrently throughout the three-day show (see p. 137 for a complete listing of the conference sessions), each day will begin with an eye-opener session featuring a keynote presentation by an industry leader. On Monday it will be Wal-Mart’s Simon Langford, manager of global RFID strategy, and Wal-Mart colleague Ron Reed, manager of corporate packaging, presenting Implementing RFID: Wal-Mart’s supply chain expectations. On Tuesday, it’s Jon Elia, quality systems manager of manufacturing at H.E.B. Grocery Co., whose keynote address is titled Eliminating muda (waste) in your packaging operations. And then on Wednesday, Coca-Cola North America’s Everett V. Darby, vice president of new product and package innovation, presents The innovation imperative.

As in years past, the Food Processing Machinery Expo will co-locate with Pack Expo Las Vegas. Once again it will focus on the newest developments in processing technology to meet the challenges faced by the industry’s food and beverage manufacturers. Food Processing Machinery Expo is sponsored and produced by Food Processing Machinery Assn.
