Marketing rollout begins for industry report

The Contract Packaging Association’s (CPA) “State of the Contract Packaging Industry” report is now available.

It is intended to provide information, perspective, and overview on the service of contract packaging that has not been available to date. Strategic Analysis Inc. gathered the data.

Complete reports were sent to both member and non-member companies participating in the two surveys leading to the final report. There is no charge to these participants. A discount will be extended to association members who would like to purchase a copy, but who did not participate in the study. A higher rate will be charged to non-members who want to purchase the report.

Revenue generated by report sales is intended to reduce the cost of extracting the information for the initial report and also to be put toward financing ongoing reports.

Special thanks go to the committees and volunteers on the committees who made the production of this research possible. Kodak produced the reports and Nulogy Corp. created the related promotional pieces. The report is also available at www.contractpackaging.org.

Board member election results

All four candidates—John Mazelin, Sean McKeon, Vic Stalam, and Gerry Donley—were elected overwhelmingly to the CPA board of directors by the membership. Forty members responded and 160 votes were cast. Some 152 votes were in support of the four directors listed.

Congratulations to our incoming board members. All will serve two-year terms. Another group of directors will be up for re-election in 2009.

Membership continues to grow Not withstanding the current conservative financial climate, the service business of contract packaging continues to grow. CPA membership stands at 166, a high-water mark. The service need continues as service providers are being increasingly charged with the new responsibility to buy, specify, recommend, and purchase more and more of the components and machinery to package products.

New CPA members since the summer edition of Contract Packaging include:

• Century Foods International

• Co-Pack.ru (Russia)

• Finch Warehouse Logistics

• Mariani Packing Co.

• Northwest Paper Box Manufacturers

• One Source Industries

• Packaging Distributors of America

• Palace Street Foods

• Raven Manufacturing

• Scoular Co.

• Smurfit-Stone

Marketing membership

All association members are now being sent two new membership indicators. One is a framed member recognition certificate. It carries the dates of the current membership period. This is suitable for display.

The second indicator is a counter card. It carries the association e-mail address www.contractpackaging.org. The goal of issuing these membership indicators is to further brand CPA and its members as belonging to an exclusive “club.”

2009 annual meeting

The association’s 2009 annual meeting will be March 20-23 at the Chateau Élan Winery & Resort in Braselton, GA.

There are two points to remember. First, the entire event is held over an incoming Friday and a following Monday noon adjournment. This schedule maximizes the benefit of the meeting while also limiting the time that members need to be away from their businesses.

The second unique aspect of the event is the a la carte offerings for spouses and guests. Visit www.chateaulan.com.
