NC law mandates bar/restaurant container recycling

A North Carolina state law (HB 237) went into effect Jan. 1 requiring all Alcoholic Beverage Control permit holders to recycle beverage containers sold at retail for on-premise consumption.

This includes glass bottles, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles, although 100% recyclable glass beer, wine, and liquor containers are expected to be most of what is generated for recycling.
This legislation is likely to boost glass recycling in a state where there is strong demand. Three glass manufacturing plants and two glass processing facilities are located in North Carolina.
