Rexam Closures (Evansville, IN) has introduced a linerless TE closure with modified buttress unscrewed threads for juice applications. The 43 mm TI-2000 closure features an integral folding bead seal that provides a resilient "gasket" for more secure sealing.

FDA wants fresh juice warning labels
Continuing its campaign to upgrade food safety in the wake of well-publicized incidences of foodborne illnesses, the Food and Drug Administration has asked juice manufacturers to voluntarily put warning labels on unpasteurized fruit and vegetable juices until formal labeling rules can be developed.

At a July 3 shareholders' meeting of Schmalbach-Lubecha AG (Ratingen, Germany) in Dsseldorf, CEO Hanno C. Fiedler observed that the improved barrier properties of PET packaging will make PET ever more popular as the material for containers of mineral water and other sensitive food products such as fruit juices and baby food.
