More milk news--from India...

According to a recent study, from Robotic Industries Association, India "ranks first in the world in milk production." But the study goes on to suggest that manufacturers are not taking advantage of this: processing and packaging have not kept pace with milk production. And fruit and vegetable production in India—which ranks second in the world—is also outpacing processing and packaging. In fact, "India cannot process and preserve more than 10-15% of its overall production" (of milk or fruits and vegetables). In a country where 30-50% of the population is estimated to live below the poverty line, the inability to consume the food and dairy products it DOES produce because of spoilage is a very sad fact. And a fact that packagers worldwide could address with not only financial but altruistic rewards.
