Food safety a hot topic

Both PMMI and the Packaging Association of Çanada are showing keen interest in programs aimed at boosting food safety

Recent announcements from the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute make it clear that food safety will be an area of emphasis at Pack Expo International October 31-November 3 in Chicago. The show will feature a Food Safety Resource Center.

Now comes word that the Packaging Association of Canada is also focused on food safety. According to foodproductiondaily.com, the Canadian government is investing USD $568,825 in a program to promote safety along the food packaging supply chain. Says Larry Dworkin. director of government relations for the Packaging Association of Canada, “The assistance we have received from the Government of Canada—both financial and technical—has been invaluable in providing the Canadian packaging industry with the most comprehensive food safety standards for packaging materials anywhere in the world.”
