Smurfit-Stone's VPS.5 merchandiser system

Smurfit -Stone’s VPS.5 Merchandiser System combines the innovation of display-ready designs with the production efficiency and superior performance of a machine-erected box.

The VPS.5 is a machine-erected single piece design for products requiring significant stacking performance. This innovative design formed on automatic and semi automatic equipment including Smurfit -Stone’s TF 4430 series of trayformers has been designed to move easily from manufacturing to shipping to retail. The display-ready design offers tremendous stacking strength material efficiency custom design features and a variety of merchandising options.

Superior Stacking Strength and Performance

The VPS.5 design provides exceptional stacking strength (50 to 250 percent) over hand- erected designs and regular slotted containers of similar material. In comparison to other machine-formed structures such as trays and Bliss boxes the VPS.5 offers between 30 and 100 percent improved performance in a single piece design. Improved stacking strength and increased performance can be attributed to the design’s split minor flap construction which when glued creates double thickness at each corner reinforcing the overall strength of the box.

Maximize brand visibility

VPS.5 allows the manufacturer greater flexibility in product placement due to exceptional corner stacking strength. The VPS.5’s unique design has no internal dividers for increased strength as are required for other designs. The result – increased product visibility and exceptional consumer access.

Increase merchandising opportunities

VPS.5 is ideal for the Club Store environment. It can be used successfully as a pallet end- of-aisle or cooler/freezer case display. The design works well with conventional single-wall and double-wall corrugated combination as well as microflute in direct print litho-label and pre-print. The superior performance of the VPS.5 through distribution maximizes the use of high-impact graphics by providing a better looking package at the point of sale.

Reduce operational costs

Smurfit -Stone has developed automated and semi-automated packaging systems to address the wide-ranging needs of both manufacturers and co-packers. Production efficiencies have been realized when changing from hand-erected designs to the highly efficient machine-erected VPS designs. VPS.5 can provide material cost savings through square footage reductions or downgrading of material labor cost savings from the elimination of hand-erected containers and touch and logistical cost savings when compared to multiple piece package designs such as bliss.

Package Size Variations

The VPS.5 is an excellent candidate for a wide variety of custom product sizes. It is also a proven performer with modular package systems such as those being used in today’s produce markets (FBA – Common Footprint Standard). The machinery system can be designed to accommodate a number of different footprint and depth changes to address specific product packaging needs.

Other Design Options Available

The “Merchandiser” represents only one part of the VPS.5 family of innovative and structurally superior designs. Fully enclosed designs including those with dispensing (bag-in-box) and display converting features are also available. Any product that requires significant stacking strength and structural performance can be a candidate for the VPS.5 system.
