Purdue Pharma Pleads Guilty for Role in Opioid Crisis

The company will close down and pay for opioid treatment and abatement programs.

The privately held maker of OxyContin will plead guilty to three federal crime charges, and pay more than $8 billion before closing down the company. Since Purdue doesn’t have $8 billion in cash, it will dissolve and its assets will go toward the creation of a new “public benefit company” controlled by a trust that will be used to fight the opioid crisis.
