• There was a boost in the frozen foods market due to the increased consumption of functional and on-the-go food. Complementary to that are the thermally processed foods that require heating of preprocessed foods. Preservation techniques such as encapsulation, irradiation, and others came about. More applications were found due to increased consumer awareness of informed packaging. Collaborative efforts and development of research organizations are adding to further enhancement in preservation techniques.

• The total growth in the global preservation markets (including preservatives, packaging, and other shelf-life extenders) was good during 2010 to 2011, and an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.3% is forecast for 2012 through 2017.

• Food and beverage packaging was the leader with more than $267.4 billion in revenue in 2011. The increase is anticipated to be at a 2.1% CAGR through 2017. The chilling and heating market occupied the next-highest slot in the global preservation market with a sales figure of nearly $113.9 billion during 2011, rising from about $110.1 billion in 2010. The sales for encapsulation, irradiation, and other preservation techniques were nearly $43.9 billion in 2011, and the CAGR from 2012 through 2017 is expected to be 8.4%, which is promising. Food preservatives accounted for sales of nearly $3 billion during 2011, and the projected market value will be nearly $4.4 billion in 2017, for a five-year CAGR of 6.7%.

The report offers insights regarding the market size, market leaders, product offerings, and elements that affect the market of food and beverage preservatives and shelf-life extenders from the perspective of their applications within the food and beverage, as well as the packaging, industries.
