The Packaging Conference 2016 points to omni-channel challenges and “clear can” technology

The Las Vegas conference in February 2016 will tackle the many omni-channel packaging challenges beyond the innovative “TruVue Can.”

New plastic can technology and omni-channel packaging challenges and solutions will be two of the topics highlighted at The Packaging Conference 2016 from February 8-10 at Green Valley Ranch, near Las Vegas.

Sonoco, one of the largest global diversified packaging companies, will be discussing its newly introduced TruVue Can as an innovative alternative to the traditional metal can that has been a mainstay packaging option for more than 200 years. The clear, retortable plastic can has the potential to revolutionize not just the canned food aisle in supermarkets but an entire food category that has not seen significant innovation in decades and is challenged to meet the demands of a new generation of shoppers.

Sonoco’s Steve Gendreau, Division V.P., Sales & Marketing – Global Plastic and Jeffrey Schuetz, Staff V.P., Global Technology – Consumer Packaging, will be detailing the company’s patented FUSION Freshlock Technology. FUSION is a highly engineered, multilayer plastic substrate that allows consumers to see the product inside. Most importantly, TruVue is the first clear plastic can to withstand the rigors of continuous retort systems without overpressure, performing in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.

The conference will also feature a module on omni-channel marketing and its potential to dramatically impact the way products are packaged today. Peter Borowski, newly named head of design for SC Johnson, will be moderating a roundtable that will include brand owner and supplier participants. Also, part of the omni-channel module will be a presentation from Pregis LLC, which will be discussing the latest protective packaging technologies.

The Packaging Conference, produced by Plastic Technologies Inc. and SBA-CCI Inc., has established a reputation as the must-attend event for the debut of new technologies and other key industry announcements.
