Pulmuone, a fresh-food company headquartered in South Korea, recently launched its two first beverage products in Ecolean lightweight aseptic packaging. The key consumers for the drinks are schoolchildren, who need an easy to use and nutritious beverage for lunch.

The processor plans to use minimal environmental impact packaging for all its products by 2022. The plan includes reducing plastic use and providing convenient recycling for consumers. Pulmuone has also introduced eco-labels on its packages featuring a leaf emblem on them. The labels provide consumer information and highlight the packages’ reduced plastic content.

“Ecolean is, of course, very pleased with the fact that Pulmuone chose Ecolean’s lightweight packaging solutions as one of the key factors when highlighting environmental awareness for its consumers, while simultaneously making its environmental footprint lighter,” states Johnny Sajland, chief commercial officer at Ecolean.

In fact, the packages were recently confirmed as easy to recycle by South Korea’s Ministry of Environment, further adding to the benefits of aluminum-free aseptic packaging and the importance of having a lifecycle approach when evaluating the sustainability of packaging solutions.

The debut of Pulmuone’s Cocoa Classic and Golden Apple beverages is one of several recent launches of Ecolean packaging in South Korea. “Ecolean has been able to cover all main categories with a diversity of different brands and products less than one year after startup in the country,” notes Sajland. The products are co-packed at Vilac, a Yakult-owned company. Yakult also launched Ecolean packages last year.
