Tressa touts 'tri' container

To promote its line of Complexes™ hair-care offerings, Tressa, Inc. is selling 3-oz trial packs unitized in what Tressa calls its “TryPack.”Supplied by TricorBraun (St.

Louis, MO), where the concept is known as “TriPak,” the unitized bundle includes three extrusion blow-molded low-density polyethylene bottles, each cross section shaped like a slice of pie. The three bottles are positioned together with their rounded sides facing outward so that the three look like one bottle. An overcap and an “undercap,” both injection-molded of polypropylene, hold the three bottles together. A taller overcap is used for products topped with a spray closure.

Cincinnati-based Tressa employs the TryPack concept for three separate trial packs (shown here). Each bottle contains either a specialized shampoo, conditioner or hair styling lotion. Packs sell for $10 at beauty salons nationwide.

“The TryPacks were introduced late last year and represent a permanent trial-sized product line,” notes Nora O’Keefe, director of marketing at Tressa. She adds, “Consumers can refill these bottles with product from our larger retail sizes so they can be used for travel or put into a gym bag.

“The pack has done well, exceeding our sales expectations,” she says. And even though it’s only been available nationally for a few months, the pack has already earned recognition, winning an award from the American Beauty Assn. for best product package design.
