Fork included in new tuna pack

Chicken of the Sea® has begun the national roll-out of Infusions™, a resealable, single-serve recyclable cup of wild-caught tuna with a built-in fork perfect for a convenient meal or snack.

Chicken of the Sea has rolled out four versions of this convenient tuna format.
Chicken of the Sea has rolled out four versions of this convenient tuna format.

Available in four flavors--Lemon & Thyme, Sundried Tomato, Thai Chili, and Basil--each cup contains 20-22 g of protein. Infusions is non-GMO, gluten-free, preservative-free, and low in sugar.

Infusions was created to meet the evolving needs of on-the-go millennials living modern lifestyles and aspiring to more healthful habits. Made with high-quality, tender tuna chunks infused with extra virgin olive oil, herbs and spices, Infusions offers consumers both a delicious and convenient snack or mini-meal. The Infusions convenient packaging, complete with built-in fork, also gives consumers the opportunity to take tuna wherever they go.

"Infusions fulfills consumers' unmet need for on-the-go snacks that are not only delicious, but also high in protein, low in sugar, and conveniently packaged," says Patty Essick, Director of Innovation, Chicken of the Sea International. "Infusions aims to bring tuna to the forefront of healthy eating by pairing high protein with savory flavors and convenience. Never before has a tuna product been created specifically for those who are constantly on the go but also want to maintain healthful eating habits."

A close look at the bottom of the injection-molded clear container reveals that it was made by Visy and that, judging by the resin identification code of “5,” the container is polypropylene. Also on the bottom is an ink-jet date code; a package purchased in Chicago February 21 carried a “best if used by” date of 12-27-19, so shelf life of the innovative new product –which is merchandised right alongside all the other tuna offerings in an attractive six-count corrugated tray--is considerable. An attractive shrink sleeve label on each cup carries graphics and ingredient information. Beneath the snap fit lid is a foil seal with a pull tab.

Molded into the patented snap-fit overcap is the identify of its maker: Auslid Enterprises Pty, based in Victoria, Australia. The clever design features a “hinged” fork that the consumer can easily remove when it’s time to eat the tuna.

"Sixty-five percent of US households buy tuna in a can and/or pouch and appreciate both the convenience and healthfulness of these products. However, the occasions on which they are consumed are very limited to traditional norms – lunch time, in a sandwich, or as a back-up. The category has lacked exciting innovation to expand its usage occasions," said Diego Isaza, Vice President Marketing, Chicken of the Sea. "I'm confident that Infusions will revolutionize the way consumers think of canned or pouch tuna. Infusions definitely takes taste and convenience to the next level. It will become a great 'go-to' option for people who want to enjoy a high protein and tasty snack that fits well with their busy lives and can be enjoyed anywhere and at any time."

Infusions is currently available in majorgrocery chains, including Meijer & Jewel, Vons, Albertsons, Costco, Safeway, Gelson's,Harris Teeter, Publix, Walmart and Kroger. The product is also available on Amazon and Walmart.com. On amazon.com, six Lemon & Thyme packs sell for $16.25 while six Thai Chili packs sell for $26.55.
