Bechtel is a private dairy in the Schwarzenfeld (Bavaria) area of Germany. Supplied by some 2,000 dairy farmers, Bechtel sells products in 27 countries, taking pride in its business, which was established in 1908.

The dairy understands that it takes more than tradition to be successful in the European milk market, so it continues to focus on quality, efficiency, and packaging format flexibility.

As its business has grown, Bechtel has increased its production capacity. Early this year, for example, at a new facility, it launched its first packages produced on new CFA 812 filling machines from SIG. With the equipment, Bechtel can fill product into both combiblocMidi and combifitMidi containers, in three different volumes.

The carton structure for the containers breaks down as follows:

• 75% paperboard for stability and moisture barrier

• 21% inner polymer layers for liquid barrier

• 4% aluminium barrier to protect product from light, oxygen, and external odors

Alfred Gürster, Bechtel’s Head of Production and Technology, says, “If you want to be successful in the dairy market today, you have to deliver high quality, produce profitably, and yet be equally flexible. We chose SIG to equip our new production plant. Their company has the right solutions to bring our products quickly and precisely to retail shelves in a way that meets the demands of the market. Differentiation and convenience both play decisive and important roles.

“We need a partner [that] understands the special features of our industry and is able to tailor its products and services to our requirements. In this respect, we feel we are in the best hands at SIG. The customized line configuration includes, among other things, a handle applicator that combines filled packs in tray formations of 2x3. This solution offers further growth potential for our business.”

Thomas Nygren, Key Account Manager at SIG, notes, “Our aim is to develop innovative solutions for a rapidly changing society. We can only achieve this goal in trusting partnerships. That's why we are pleased to welcome another well-known dairy as a customer. Together with Bechtel, we look forward to a successful future."
