At Unilever's Bifi operation in Ansbach, Germany, lidding material is unwound into the Multivac system that evacuates and backflushes sausage packs before sealing the lidstock to the thermoformed bottom web. A bank of Videojet ink-jet coders are responsible for date-coding.

 

Midwest Poultry operates 30 Focus S10 laser systems from Videojet Technologies that improve the crucial carton coding part of its operations at three of its plants. The carton ends are laser etched with a two-line, 1/4""-high code at a rate up to 40 cartons/min; vacuum tubing removes the residue. Midwest Poultry codes onto expanded polystyrene or molded pulp (shown) cartons.

All boxes of DVDs at Deluxe Media Services are transported on the main conveyor past a bar code system; those destined for RFID application are directed down a new 130'-long conveyor spur. For RFID tag commissioning, the operator applies an on-pitch RFID tag and then scans the SSCC bar code into the software. The box is then pushed through the RFID portal to write to the tag and confirm a good read. The RFID data is thus associated with the bar code data and the RFID-enabled box is ready for shipment.

To soften the impact, vacuum grippers hold the can tops as cans, filled with edible oils, are dropped into cases. Case packing equipment was supplied by Hamrick.

At the case packer, supplied by TAD Packaging Machinery, Pails of powdered mixes are collated into groups of six that are cross-pushed onto the 29# ECT corrugated blank. After the cases are glue sealed, they are discharged to the takeaway conveyor.
