UNIDO announced The Technology Innovation Award for Food Safety in developing countries at interpack during a press luncheon sponsored by Ipack-Ima. The UNIDO award will be presented at Ipack-Ima 2012, which runs February 28-March 3 at Milan’s Fiera Milano.
“Food safety and food security are closely intertwined as we seek technologies that contribute to an increase in food supply by preventing or minimizing food contamination and spoilage,” says Diana Battaggia, Head of UNIDO ITPO-Italy. “That’s why we have been cooperating with Ipack-Ima since 2009. We indeed share a common interest – to foster the promotion of food security and food safety technologies to help alleviate world hunger. Our relationship goes beyond this exhibition. Our actions focus on analysing the needs of developing countries, seeking to adapt appropriate packaging technologies and products to the local circumstances. This can be done by creating employment, reducing poverty, improving food safety and quality standards, and enhancing environmental protection.”
The 2012 edition of Ipack-Ima will be number 22. It will include an international convention called “Appropriate Food Technologies for Food Safety and Food Security in African Countries.” This convention is being organized jointly by Ipack-Ima, UNIDO, and WFP. Presentation of the new UNIDO award will be a part of this convention.
