FDA’s Crowley addresses Unique Device Identification

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has provided a detailed description of proposed effective dates for Unique Device Identification (UDI) requirements on its Web site.
A preprinted pharmaceutical carton showing the GS1-128 bar code (on right, with 20 digits) required by China’s PIATS program is printed by RSI printheads using HP’s TIJ (thermal ink-jet) 2.5 cartridge technology. HP’s TIJ 2.5 can print at resolutions up to 600 dpi. RSI optimizes bar-code resolution and print-cartridge life using patent-pending Variable DPI and nozzle-flipping features. Hailong incorporated RSI’s HP-based printers into its track-and-trace system for PIATS.
