SouthPack expands in '95

The addition of conferences, seminars and "eye openers" reflect the growth of SouthPack '95, held May 9 through May 11, in Atlanta, GA.

Billed as the only packaging exposition based in the South SouthPack '95 is expected to attract more than 10 attendees from all end-user markets-a 13% increase over the last show. Sponsored by Reed Exhibition Cos. (Norwalk CT) the show will be held May 9 through 11 in Atlanta's Georgia World Congress Center. More than 370 companies are expected to participate in the event with a key focus on industries prevalent in the South including furniture textiles and tobacco. The SouthPack Conference Program will run May 8 through May 10. Sponsored by the Herndon VA-based Institute of Packaging Professionals in cooperation with the Atlanta chapter of IoPP the program will consist of five morning update sessions and five seminars and workshops. "Eye openers" Update sessions are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday May 9 and 10 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday's topics: Update on Environmental Packaging Legislation and Six Things You Should Know as You Design a New Package. Wednesday's topics: IoPP's Chemical Packaging Guidelines: Responsible Packaging Management; Packaging Career Management: What the Packaging Professional Should Be Doing Now to Prepare for a Future Job Change and Fourteen Steps the Small Manufacturer Can Take to Increase Product Protection and Decrease Packaging Costs. Registration fees are $25 for IoPP members; $35 for nonmembers. Seminars and workshops Geared to the research and development engineer packaging or purchasing professional Fundamentals of Flexible Packaging Short Course is a two-day course to be held Monday and Tuesday May 8 and 9. It's designed to give a working knowledge of the various functions properties and applications of flexible packaging as well as a familiarity with terminology materials specifications printing machinery and quality assurance techniques used in flexible packaging. Speakers include Dr. Aaron Brody industry leader and adjunct professor in the Dept. of Food Marketing in Philadelphia's St. Joseph University and Eugene R. Strupinsky a thirty-year veteran of the plastics and packaging industries. Attendees can get an update on revisions and proposed changes to domestic and international testing standards at the Performance Testing of Transport Packaging seminar on Monday May 8. Designed especially for package design engineers laboratory testing technicians and transportation and warehouse specialists the seminar will provide information on how packagers can use new rules to reduce costs and improve product protection. Alfred H. McKinlay P.E. CPP/MH a nationally recognized expert on transport packaging will conduct the seminar. Learn to increase sales at IoPP's workshop: Packaging Sales: an Innovative Problem-solving Approach held Monday and Tuesday May 8 and 9. The two-day workshop has been developed for packaging sales representatives and managers who would like to improve their customer relationships and learn better problem-solving approaches. Duane P. Beck adjunct professor at Rochester Institute of Technology and author of "Packaging Sales; an Innovative Problem Solving Approach" will be speaking. Those involved in their company's packaging lines can discover How to Analyze Packaging Line Performance: a One-day Tutorial on Implementing Performance Concepts and Tools on Packaging Lines on Monday May 8. Paul Zepf co-founder of Zepf Technologies and author of "How to Analyze Packaging Line Performance" will define many existing terms and show how to evaluate packaging line performance. Developed for those in the furniture manufacturing industries the IoPP Furniture Packaging Conference: Designing the Best Fit will take place Tuesday May 9. it will include an overview of furniture packaging trends and developments in shrink wrapping and problems and opportunities from the dealer's perspective. Registration fees for all IoPP seminars and workshops range from $195 for members; $595 for nonmembers. Women in Packaging In addition to IoPP-sponsored programs Atlanta-GA based Women in Packaging will host two programs on Wednesday May 10. Acclaimed speaker Dawn-Marie Driscoll co-author of "Members of the Club The Coming Age of Executive Women" will discuss strategies for making it to the top of the corporate world. The program will run twice: from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. or from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Fees are $125 for members; $145 for nonmembers. A luncheon program runs in conjunction with each. Hotel and Travel Safety is a presentation given by a panel of Holiday Inn Worldwide management. All IoPP seminars and morning sessions as well as the Women in Packaging programs will be held in the Georgia World Congress Center.
