PVC demand in packaging to grow 3%
A recent study by The Freedonia Group, Cleveland, OH, says demand for polyvinyl chloride packaging in North America will grow an average 3% annually to reach 1billion lb in 1998.
Further growth will be threatened by maturity in film/ sheet uses and environmental concerns in the bottle segment. PVC packaging applications will account for about 8% of total North American PVC demand over the next decade the study says. By segment PVC film and sheet demand will grow 2.8% bottle demand 3.3% and closure demand 3.6%. The complete 177-page study "Polyvinyl Chloride in North America" is available for $2.
