Sterling Contract Packaging hits recycling milestone
Sterling Contract Packaging Inc., Spartanburg, SC, recycled one million pounds of waste in 2013, which equates to 97% of the waste produced at all of of its facilities. In addition to office and warehouse greening, significant, early reductions in packaging material waste contributed to the effort while also dovetailing with operational efficiency.
Sustainable packaging market to reach $244 billion by 2018
The global market for sustainable packaging will reach $244 billion by 2018, according to a new market report from Smithers Pira,"The Future of Sustainable Packaging to 2018.” Research indicates that Consumer demand and government legislation are driving sustainability, and companies can use it to appeal to the conscience of consumers, and as a platform for new product and market development.
Kane Is Able opens SoCal distribution center
Third-party logistics provider Kane Is Able, Inc. Scranton, PA, opened a 211,000 square foot distribution center in Rialto, California, 50 miles east of Los Angeles. This geographical expansion in Southern California will generate an annual savings of more than one million dollars in transportation costs, the company said.
CPA names new member services director
The Contract Packaging Association named Nikki Johnson to the position of member communications director. Johnson brings more than 20 years of experience in the packaging industry, including positions in sales, marketing and business development roles within ITW, a leading provider of packaging equipment and supplies.
Appeal to the subconscious through package design
Aesthetically pleasing packaging is nice to look at, but it doesn’t always necessarily connect with its audience or sell product. If it did, many brands wouldn’t be losing traction in category after category at retail.
