Coregistics to expand new Chicago facility from 180,000 to 1 million sq.ft.

On May 30, Coregistics, Atlanta-based contract packager and supply chain services provider, acquired Cano Packaging, a Chicago-area company specializing in primary contract packaging services for food and confectionary brands. The deal establishes a Coregistics presence in Chicago, and significantly increases Coregistics’ ability to satisfy much-needed demand with packaging assets that include high-speed cartoning, vertical form/fill/seal, high-speed pouching and overwrapping equipment.

In an interview with Contract Packaging, Coregistics CEO Eric Wilhelm noted that the Cano facility currently has capacity in a five-day workweek for “roughly 500 million pieces per year in bags, pouches and cartons.” Based on initial feedback from customers, he estimates immediate demand for at least 150 mm packages a year.

The acquisition will help Coregistics reach a short-term revenue goal of $100 million a year while adding to a synergistic or “coregistic” competency across all company plants spanning all upstream and downstream packaging and supply chain services…

Assemblies Unlimited, Inc. launches E-commerce website, PackagingQuote.com

Assemblies Unlimited, a full turnkey contract packaging, assembly, and fulfillment services supplier, started an E-commerce website, PackagingQuote.com, to expand its footprint in the packaging industry to include stock packaging materials. The new web company is an interactive shopping cart site that offers over 10,000 packing, shipping, and industrial supplies that customers can order online with a click of a button. With a warehouse of over 1100 stock boxes and 1500 new items, PacakgingQuote.com offers same day shipping of stock packaging materials including corrugated cartons, corrugated mailers, mailing tubes, shrink film, stretch wrap, poly bags, bubble wrap, retail packaging supplies, labels & tags, janitorial supplies, tape & dispensers, and many other end-of-line products.

Packaging materials can be purchased right from the website using a credit card or a PayPal account. Open payment terms will be available for larger repeat customers with established credit history.

Co-packer LiDestri Food & Beverages to expand into nonfoods with new technology & package

LiDestri Food & Beverage, a Fairport, NY-based contract manufacturer and packager known sauces, dips, salsas, beverages, oils, and spirits, is expanding with new, into multi-compartment flexible pouches for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmetic applications.

David DiLiberto, director of business development and former president of Marsupial Packaging (now part of LiDestri) explains: “There are several variations or designs of this packaging technology, however it can best be described as a collapsible, multi-compartment flexible plastic container that may have several segregated compartments, where the seal or seals may be ruptured and the contents mixed.”

The packaging can hold product mixes including powder and powder, liquid and powder, liquid and liquid, powder/liquid, and empty. DiLiberto believes the technology will be able to provide for novel parenteral and clinical nutrition delivery in hospital, pharmacy, or home healthcare venues….

Clysar Division of Bemis purchased by Cove Point

Cove Point Holdings, LLC, a privately held New York-based company has announced that its affiliate has purchased the Clysar division of Bemis Company, Inc., with plans to strongly invest in Clysar’s shrink film operation. Clysar, a leading manufacturer of polyolefin shrink films for food and consumer goods, has renamed Cove Point to Clysar, LLC, which will now operate as a stand-alone, independent company. Clysar will move its headquarters from Oshkosh, WI, to Clinton, IA, where its extrusion and converting campus is located….
