These were among the topics leading luminaries from the consumer packaged goods (CPG) sector discussed at a town hall-style meeting at late February’s CPA 2013 Annual Meeting in Naples, FL.

Glass-to-PET conversion’s smooth as glass

Old South Foods, Ann Arbor, MI, bottler and contract packager to restaurant and foodservice companies, converted its 16-oz barbecue sauce decanter from glass to hot-fill PET bottles for Big Show Foods’ John Boy and Billy’s Grillin’ Sauce brands. It’s the co-packer’s first use of PET containers—and reportedly the first commercial adoption of Amcor Rigid Plastics’ 16-oz hot-fill stock decanter. According to Greg Peckham, plant manager for Old South Foods, the new bottle’s benefits include lighter weight, reduced breakage and easier filling for “greater accuracy in meeting proper volume measurements” for greater productivity and output.
