Scorecard metrics, goals explained
Wal-Mart is no stranger to criticism and controversy. In 2006, Sam’s Club director of packaging Amy Zettlemoyer-Lazar and Sam’s Club senior vp of Marketing, Research & Insights Matt Kistler, unveiled to the packaging community Wal-Mart’s momentous plan to develop and implement a Packaging Scorecard to help the company reach its goal of a 5% reduction in packaging waste by 2013.
Since then, while many of the company’s consumer packaged goods suppliers have embraced the opportunity to participate in Wal-Mart’s environmental goals, others in the packaging community have expressed skepticism and resistance.
In this exclusive, seven-minute Podcast conducted by Packaging World senior editor Anne Marie Mohan, Zettlemoyer-Lazar addresses questions about the scorecard related to:
- How the metrics are being determined
- How the scorecard will be used by Wal-Mart buyers to make their purchasing decisions
- The support and criticism the company has received for its sustainability initiative
- Wal-Mart’s progress thus far
This Podcast is part of a two-part interview with Wal-Mart's Zettlemoyer; for Part 1, see Scorecard advice from the top.
