Revlon cited for new glass decorating process

Ken Horvath of General Motors Corp. Detroit MI won the individual achievement award and Coors Brewing Co. Golden CO was awarded the Cor-porate Commitment Award. Developed by Mel Kamen senior vice president of ad-vanced technology Revlon's Enviro* Gluv(TM) process for direct printing on glass (example pictured) offers vibrant colors and metallic stamping without the use of heavy metals common with ACL decorating. Said to be cost-competitive with existing decorating techniques Enviro Gluv produces a container with graphics superior even to ceramic inks. It also eliminates VOCs from the decorating pro-cess cuts energy and space consumption and improves the recovery of uncontaminated glass for recycling. Revlon intends to license the technology PW is told. It is negotiating with glass manufacturers as well as with major U.S. packagers. One beverage company is very excited about the process but has some reservations about the durability of the print and its resistance to fading and chipping.
