Regular slotted cartons (RSC) are ubiquitous in industry and with good reason: They are a relatively inexpensive, reusable, efficient means to cartonize products for shipping.
But packagers who jump directly into RSC without exploring others options might be missing an opportunity—particularly if they desire enhanced stacking strength and particularly in the current retail climate.
Today’s retailers—from big-box mass merchandisers to traditional supermarkets—are all looking to increase speed from the dock to the floor, while reducing labor. This has resulted in greater demand for products that can be taken directly from the pallet to the shelf or display case—or set on the floor in the box itself. No one wants to unpack a box item by item and place individual SKUs.
