Kleenex pack wins AIMCAL award

A holiday package for Kleenex tissues from Neenah, WI-based Kimberly-Clark Corp. was named Product of the Year in this year’s awards competition sponsored by the Association of International Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL).
By Pat Reynolds, Editor-in-Chief

The Consumer Packaging Division of Graphic Packaging Intl. designed the three-piece formed canister. The sidewall structure consists of UV-cured coating/UV inks/metallized PET/0.016” solid bleached sulfate/extruded low-density polyethylene. A proprietary process creates a lens pattern on the metallized PET. The resulting “ornaments” look so three-dimensional, the paperboard appears to be embossed. Registration marks in the film ensure the lens pattern aligns perfectly with the graphics. UV inks and coatings enhance shelf presence. The upscale, holiday-themed canisters sold for $2.99 each, a significantly higher price point than standard tissue packs.

AIMCAL judges liked the eye-catching oval shape, the interplay of metallization/ lens image/holiday ornament graphics, and the 3D effect.
