The bottles feature a 63-mm finish with multiple thread starts (interrupted threads), similar to the type of finish used on glass bottles, and typically used for hot-fill products such as these salsas. Plastic twist closures with built-in induction seal liners--sealed by Enercon (www.enerconind.com)-- provide tamper evidence and barrier against moisture and oxygen. They’re supplied by Berry Plastics Corp. (www.berryplastics.com). In-line capping equipment is from Pneumatic Scale Corp. (www.barry-wehmillerco.com).
The jugs are shrink-wrapped together using 3-mil PVC shrink film supplied by Pack-Mark (www.pack-mark.com) and shrink equipment manufactured by Axon Corp. (www.axoncorp.com). San Antonio Farms also is planning to institute polypropylene carrier collars (called “dog bones”) supplied by PakTech (www.paktech-opi.com) for the salsa bottle packs.
Darryl Bilderback, director of material management for San Antonio Farms, reports, “initial reception to our salsa double-packs has been extremely positive. The new 48-ounce jug and twin-pack presentation will give our customers new marketing options.”
