"The program is a logical response to the rapidly growing packaging industry" says Bruce Harte director of the School of Packaging. "The field of packaging is moving into a higher level of science and engineering. This program will address the demand for people to teach packaging and to work in packaging-related industries." Initially the program will focus on material science applications in packaging food packaging mass transport applications and the dynamics and physical distribution aspects of packaging. Guidelines will be set by the School of Packaging College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the University. To complete the program students will take a minimum of 24 research credits and a minimum number of course credits to be determined by their guidance committees.
