Personna M5 shaving system earns AmeriStar Award

Supply chain collaboration leads to a clamshell design that puts the package on a par with American Safety Razor’s five-blade, state-of-the-art product.

Shaving systems and their packaging have come a long way as the men’s grooming segment in general has become highly competitive. One example of how high the bar has been raised in shaving systems is the Personna M5 Magnum, from American Safety Razor. The state-of-the-art, five-blade shaving system is housed in equally contemporary packaging, which has earned a 2009-2010 AmeriStar Award from the Institute of Packaging Professionals.

Initial concept designs from Little Big Brands and InSync Design were provided to Transparent Container Co. for additional design, refinement, and engineering. The finished package uses several components to secure and complement the shaving system.

The package is an RF sealed and labeled clamshell, in which three layers are sealed. Inside the clamshell are the product and high-visibility graphics printed on a plastic insert.

“Collaboration between our packaging and development teams, and Transparent Container’s design and engineering teams, made it possible to achieve and exceed a challenging set of design and functionality goals established by American Safety Razor,” says Marilyn Massari, American Safety Razor marketing manager. “The packaging solution emphasizes the brand’s identity of technology advancement and product differentiation at retail.”
