Flip-top flavor enhancers for dog food

In June 2007, Chomp, Inc., Weymouth, MA, introduced Sniffers Shake-Ins Meal Enhancers for dog food. The dry granulated products are available in three flavors (chicken, bacon, and liver) and are formulated to enhance flavor, add protein, and aid healthy digestion.

They are packaged in 9-oz PET containers supplied by Parker Plastics, then sealed and capped with polystyrene foam tamper-evident membranes and polypropylene NutraFlapper easy-dispensing closures supplied by Weatherchem Corp.. The full-body shrink labels, each with a perforated, tamper-evident tear-strip around the cap, are made of plant-based, 100% biodegradable (compostable ASTM D 6400) Earthfirst PLA film manufactured by Plastic Suppliers Inc. and rotogravure-printed in 8 colors by Gilbreth USA.

The half-moon-shaped orifice of the closure provides controlled, no-clog, no-mess dispensing and recloses with a snap sound, signaling that freshness of the remaining all-natural, soluble-fiber product is locked into the container. Chomp’s vp of marketing Sarah Speare says, “Weatherchem came highly recommended by our bottle supplier Parker Plastics. And the NutraFlapper design is perfect for our product because it meets the need for one-hand convenience and controlled, no-stick dispensing. We think this product is going to be a big winner.”

Sniffers Shake-Ins are being marketed through pet stores, grocery stores, and amazon.com. The retail price is $3.29 to $4.99, depending on store/channel.
