Pillsbury: No tear strip waffling
The tape is provided by Sealstrip (Boyertown PA). The spool-wound material is heat-sealed to the inside of a coextruded polyethylene-based film from Printpack (Atlanta GA). The 1.75- to 2-mil film is surface-printed flexographically in eight colors. Graphics instruct consumers to: 1. Tear perforation; 2. Pull flaps apart; 3. Press to reseal.
Sealstrip also makes the applicators that apply the resealable tape material to the film at Pillsbury’s Allentown PA plant. The Sealstrip applicators are mounted to wrapping equipment. No other equipment was necessary to accommodate the resealable packs.
“These packages replace the same sizes of bags that used a reclosure device that was like a clip” notes Amy Clark Pillsbury’s associate marketing manager. The pack will be used for five waffle varieties in the two smaller sizes two varieties in the 24-count size. “We wanted to offer our consumers more convenience and freshness so we decided to go with this resealable pack” Clark says. “These will replace existing product as store inventories of the current packs flow through.” (JB)
