Mini cookies big hit in PP cups
United Biscuits Southern Europe, Barcelona, Spain, introduced Nabisco-brand Mini-Oreos and Mini-Chips Ahoy cookies packaged in rigid polypropylene, 4-oz cups to Spanish and Portuguese markets in 2004.
Since then there has been growing consumer acceptance of this packaging format in all Spanish and Portuguese distribution channels. The company is planning introduction of other mini-cookie varieties including chocolate biscuits in the PP cups.
Supplied by EDV Packaging the PP cups are sealed with flexible membrane lidding film that provides barrier properties to protect cookie freshness for an estimated 12 months. Oriented polystyrene gravure-printed sleeve labels are supplied by Sleever International S.A. The injection-molded plastic recloseable overcaps come from Procap Llagostera. —Judy Rice
