'Shot' fires schnapps sales in UK

A unique, patented 30-mL “pot” (in olde English) made of Eastar® copolymer from Eastman Chemical (Kingsport, TN), has helped create a successful product launch for SideKick™ schnapps from H.P. Bulmer, Hereford, England.

The container is molded by Fourfold Mouldings (Keighley West Yorkshire England) and Eastar was selected for its clarity and impact strength without stress cracking.

The container design is patented and is capable of sitting atop an open bottle or clipping to a drinking glass. Once filled the container is sealed using a specially designed linear low-density polyethylene press-on tamper-evident closure from Portola Packaging (Doncaster South Yorkshire England). SideKicks are available in five flavors and are shipped in 24-ct packs for on-premise sales and in 16-ct packs for retail sale.

“SideKick is the United Kingdom’s best-selling shot” says Ian Cressey a technical package development person at Bulmer. “We’re now selling about 100 per day.” Plus he says work is underway to develop a 50-mL version for the U.S. market. —AO
