Nomaco (Zebulon, NC) has introduced Nomacorc(TM), a synthetic replacement for natural cork. It is made in an extrusion process using engineered polymers.

M.A. Hanna Color created the wood grain exterior of the product. The synthetic cork creates the proper oxygen barrier and does not affect the taste or odor of the wine. The outer layer of the synthetic cork accepts a four-color printing process so wineries can use the closure as a second label. The re-insertable synthetic cork is compatible with existing machinery found in standard wine bottling operations and is extractable with traditional corkscrews.
