AccuDial and PediaCare: Co-packers prominent in two new dosing options for children's medicine.
Here's a storyreally two storiesabout two very innovative packages for kids' medicine dosing, both of which come to the marketplace via contract services.
AccuDial Pharmaceutical of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., uses a two-part label to achieve what the company calls a "revolution in over-the-counter dosing." The Children's AccuDial line of liquid over-the-counter medications uses a two-part label that allows consumers to administer a precise dose in milliliters of a liquid medication based on the child's weight. Bio-Pharm, a leading supplier of generic pharmaceutical formulations, manufactures and packs the new product at its 40,000 sq -ft facility in Levittown, Pa. Another innovation comes from an (undisclosed) contract packager working for Prestige Brands, an Irvington, N.Y., marketer, seller, and distributor of over-the-counter healthcare and other products. The company recently made some key packaging changes to its PediaCare and Little Remedies products to protect infants and toddlersand adopt an industry-lead initiative of the Consumer Healthcare Products Association. Replacing the older syringe for concentrated drops is a new two-piece dosing syringe with a polypropylene barrel and high-density polyethylene plunger. Winnie the Pooh makes splash in HDPE bottles
New Windsor Brands, Princeton, N.J., is launching a line of baby wash, shampoo, and lotion bearing the image of Winnie the Pooh. The line includes three shampoo, three wash, and three lotion SKUs, in three fragrances (powder fresh, lavender, and chamomile, and fragrance-free), all filled by an undisclosed contract manufacturer in Florida. The bottles incorporate anti-slip features and labels from Yupo. TricorBraun supplies extrusion/blow-molded bottles and injection-molded polypropylene closures, which include a disc-top cap for shampoo and pump for lotion. Read the full story here.

20 transportation execs lobby Congress
The National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council, a.k.a. NASSTRAC, which represents the interests of freight shippers across all modes of transportation, held a lobbying junket they called a Washington "fly-in" Sept. 27-28 in which nearly 20 transportation executives lobbied the offices of a dozen members of Congress. Issues include the need for infrastructure investment; concerns about changes to the existing truck driver hours of service rules and truck size-and-weight restrictions, according to Brian Everett, NASSTRAC's executive director. He said laws are now being considered that if passed would increase transportation and supply chain costs by up to 10 percent.
