Honeywell products roll out with CP in key point role
Contract packagers are expanding their traditional role by offering services that surpass merely packaging products. One of these additional services is supply chain coordination. Rand Direct functioned in that role recently in bringing together sub-vendors and components in producing Honeywell Consumer Product Group's new family of auto accessories for moms.
In developing the Blink line, Honeywell took the key initial step of turning to 4sight, a brand identity and design firm, to line up the right players in the supply chain. This step was important because Honeywell lacked a procurement department large enough to do all the vendor and material sourcing itself.
4sight researched and interviewed 50 manufacturers before identifying Rand Direct as the lead vendor in working with many suppliers in forming what Jim Brown, Honeywell CPG director, new product marketing, describes as a "virtual factory." Rand acted as the manufacturing coordinator. The company worked with multiple sub-vendors selected by 4sight and produced 20 different components in several different materials in a seamless manufacturing operation.
Rand Direct fills, labels, covers, and seals packaging across the five-product Blink line.
The line, sub-branded as "Mom's Car Solutions," is for the mom-on-the-go. Wipes, trash bags, and other organizational and cleaning aids help her sanely keep her family car organized while transporting kids from one activity to another. The products suit her taste, featuring feminine colors and shapes.
The line includes Mess Lifters stain remover auto interior wipes, Spill Grabbers superabsorbent wipes, Trash Tossers easy clip drawstring litterbags, Smudge Cleaners fingerprint removers, and Tidy Totes carry bags.
A portion of the line is packaged in polyvinyl chloride thermoform trays from Tegrant Alloyd Brands. The trays contain injection-molded ABS clips and paperboard graphics cards. The range of packaging also includes PVC pouches.
