Anderson, Partners Win HCPC 'Compliance Package of the Year' Award
Anderson Packaging, Rockford, Ill., contract pharma packager, racked-up an HCFC Compliance Package of the Year win at the RxAdherence 19th annual symposium this month for its part in producing the winning product, Novartis Diovan HCT, a leading, branded anti-hypertensive.
Anderson uses MeadWestvaco's Shellpak unit-dose medication packaging which provides safe single-dose accuracy by building on traditional calendar-type blister packs with child-resistance and a thin-but-rugged molded plastic outer shell to protect the pills. The award, like sponsor HCPC, the nonprofit Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council, promotes the use of tamper evidence, unit-dose packaging and related innovations for greater patient compliance, reduced accidental poisonings and reduced counterfeiting.
The honors owe to a collaborative effort by Novartis, MeadWestvaco and Anderson, the Rockford, Ill.-based contract packaging unit of AmerisourceBergen. The companies' teamwork provides "a good example of how to deliver a very well planned and effective package to the patient," Justin Schroeder, Anderson's senior director of marketing & development, said in accepting the award. He added that resulting design facilitates patient compliance and adherence; supports patient education; meets regulatory requirements and provides a convenient format for the end user.

Two Speedmasters in Two Years for Diamond Packaging
To keep apace with its growing high-end printing and packaging business, Diamond Packaging, based in Rochester, NY, installed a second eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 that's now in full production in time for a busy summer.
While the company didn't anticipate the need for a second machine, Kristen Werner, Diamond Packaging's president and co-owner, said: "We found we needed a second machine to keep up with customer demand, which has far exceeded our expectations."
The company bought its first Speedmaster XL 105 just one year ago in response to customer demand for more complex, high-end work with in-line finishing and specialty coatings. The upgrade added capability for high-gloss applications with dispersion and other coatings, as well as special effects such as metallic, pearlescent designs.
The new installation is uses a double-coating configuration with initial flexo dispersion coater, four modular deliveries and full interdeck UV capability.
The company, now in its centennial year, manufactures paperboard and plastic packaging, and provides contract packaging services for personal care, health care, pharmaceutical food and other customers including Avon, Bausch & Lomb, Beiersdorf, Coty, Elizabeth Arden, Godiva Chocolatier, L'Oreal and Procter & Gamble.
