New USDA produce seal

USDA has initiated a voluntary pilot program under which fresh-cut produce plants can qualify to put USDA "Qualified Through Verification" seals on their packaging.

So far five packing facilities of minimally processed produce have qualified including Handi-Pak Foods Kankakee IL; Grimmway Foods Bakersfield CA; Babe Foods Santa Maria CA; and Tanimura & Antle's Salinas and Yuma CA Salad Time Foods® plants. USDA auditors conduct unannounced safety checks of plants as part of the fresh-cut produce program.
