SATO America Introduces UHF RFID High-Performance OEM Print Engine
SATO “S” Series provides complete and automatic UHF RFID labeling
CHARLOTTE NC – September 22 2004 – SATO America Inc. the global leader in print engines for use in print/apply equipment and the developer of the world’s first print engine announced today the introduction of the SATO RFID-enabled “S” Series OEM print engines. The RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) module adopted by SATO operates in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band (915 Mhz) and conforms to the EPC Class 1 standard.
“The M-8485Se print engine represents the defacto standard in the automatic print and apply arena” said Mike Fowler President of SATO America Inc. “With the addition of the UHF RFID module the M-8485Se is designed for many applications including anti-theft asset tracking supply chain logistics baggage tags and factory automation and enables users to automatically print and apply smart labels. The M-8485Se is in a unique position to solve customers’ smart labeling print and apply needs now and in the future as many users will employ “slap and ship” as a first step to using RFID labels but realize it is not a viable long term commercial solution.”
Unlike a conventional barcode label with static information an RFID label uses a UHF chip embedded in the label that automatically exchanges its information with an external reader. The data stored on the RFID-enabled "smart label" can be updated supplemented or deleted at any time. Additionally RFID technology enables an RFID label to be read regardless of its orientation and without direct line-of-sight considerations allowing reading operations to be done automatically while reducing labor costs and improving accuracy. RFID technology provides rapid reliable tracking of goods and materials throughout the entire supply chain.
Actively involved in RFID technology for many years SATO now delivers not just RFID printing solutions but complete EPC-compliant RFID solutions including pre-planning consultation site surveys pilot planning and implementation and post-pilot consultation and customer service.
SATO recently introduced the industry’s first complete multi-protocol EPC-compliant RFID solutions for customer pilots and beta tests and fully supports the Uniform Code Council’s (UCC) EPC initiatives including projects driven by Wal-Mart the Department of Defense (DOD) and other major retailers.
SATO America leading the way in barcode printing solutions and now in complete UHF RFID system solutions…from printing a product smart label to tracking product at the dock door and on conveyor systems.
